Accessible Parking Committee

2-13-1: Created; Appointment; Membership; Terms; Vacancies

There is hereby created an Accessible Parking Committee, which shall be designated the Accessible Parking Committee and which shall consist of at least seven (7) members, as appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council, with each member being selected on behalf of an identifiable population of persons with disabilities and with at least four (4) persons being a person with a disability. Each member shall be appointed for a term of four (4) years. If a vacancy should occur during an unexpired term, such vacancy shall be filled in the same manner as an original appointment. 2-13-2: Organization

At their first meeting, the appointed committee members shall elect a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary, who shall serve for terms of one year. The Secretary shall keep a record of all meetings and proceedings of the committee and shall perform all services that may be reasonably required by the committee. The committee shall hold regular public meetings, as necessary, and shall keep a written record of its proceedings. (1952 Code § 2-25-02)

2-13-3: Compensation; Quorum

A. Compensation; Expenses: The members of the Accessible Parking Committee shall serve and act without compensation, except that their actual and necessary expenses shall be allowed by the Council and the City shall provide the necessary and suitable equipment and supplies to enable the committee to properly transact and perform its business.

B. Quorum: A majority of the appointive members of the committee shall be necessary to constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. The committee shall hold at least one meeting each year, and at such other times as may be called by the Chairperson or by the Mayor. (1952 Code § 2-25-03)

2-13-4: Duties And Responsibilities

The Accessible Parking Committee shall serve in an advisory capacity and is established to:

A. Provide information and recommendations to the Division of Parking Services relating to the need for additional accessible parking spaces pursuant to section 6-10A-15 of this Code.

B. Provide recommendations regarding the relocation, repair or modification of existing accessible parking spaces.

C. Accept, analyze and make recommendations to the Division of Parking Services regarding requests for additional accessible parking spaces as provided in section 6-10A-15 of this Code. (1952 Code § 2-25-04)

D. Provide advice and recommendations to the Planning and Development Services Department and other City departments on accessibility issues relating to streetscapes and sidewalk fixtures, including, but not limited to, the placement of signs, planters, benches, bicycle racks, newsstands, fences, and trash receptacles.
